Making a difference to society is not only a part of our ESG responsibilities, but also part of our culture. We are proud to work with national charity partners, and local causes, to give back in the communities which we serve.

Charity work

We kicked off our commercial and fundraising partnership with the National Literacy Trust in September 2023 following a colleague vote for partnership.

Together, with the National Literacy Trust we will be able to support even more families across the UK and use our combined passion and expertise to engage and inspire the communities they are part of.

By raising vital funds for this cause we are ensuring children, young people and adults have access to the vital literacy skills they need to thrive and succeed in life, and the power to shape their futures.

Together, we will help people change life stories.

Jonathan Douglas CBE, Chief Executive of the National Literacy Trust says “The Works is a perfect partner for the National Literacy Trust, with our shared passion for creating the next generation of readers and our joint commitment to working at the heart of the local community. The funds raised by teams at The Works will have a huge impact on the lives of many children living in communities facing the biggest challenges with literacy.”

In May 2021, at a time when mental health concerns were very prevalent, we launched our UK-wide commercial and fundraising partnership with Mind, the Scottish Association for Mental Health and the Inspire Mental Health Consortium.

Since launch, our colleagues have undertaken a range of fundraising initiatives, using nationally recognised events to help spread awareness and raise money. Despite a challenging fundraising environment our first two years of partnership raised just short of £150k for this deserving cause.

But that’s not all…

  • We commit to donating 10% of Christmas Cards that launch in 2023 to our charity partners the National Literacy Trust and Mind (including SAMH and Inspire).
  • We have introduced a complete commercial range available year-round that donates 20% of all sales to our charity partners the National Literacy Trust and Mind (including SAMH and Inspire).
  • We are hosting a trial takeback scheme in our Kent based stores, working with Barnardo’s to raise funds through the resale of donations which will help achieve better outcomes for more children through funding campaigns that aim to build stronger families, safer childhood and positive futures.
